Navasacha Ganapati fulfills wishes
This pandal is not only the most famous but also one of the oldest pandals in Mumbai. Every year people eagerly wait for the idol to be installed here, but do you know when, why and who installed the idol here for the first time? Actually, ‘Lalbaug Ka Raja’ started in 1934, when the Lalbaug market was closed during industrialization. Due to this, fishermen and traders had to suffer huge losses and they came to pray to Lord Ganesha with their problems.
After praying to Bappa, a new permanent market was built here, which fulfilled the wishes of the traders and considering it as Bappa’s blessing, people dedicated a part of the market for Ganpati Puja. Since then, a grand pandal of Bappa is set up here every year on Ganesh Chaturthi.
There is also a special tradition of making idols
Not only this pandal, but the idol installed here is also very special. The Kambli family is responsible for making the idol of Lalbaugcha Raja, which continues till date. Even today, people of this family make the idol for the pandal and also maintain it. Not only this, they have also patented the design of this idol.
