Insurance is done for this much

​GSB Seva Mandal located at Kings Circle, Mumbai has taken insurance of Rs 474.46 crore for Ganeshotsav this year, which is the biggest insurance till date. Last year this insurance was Rs 400 crore, and in 2023 it will be Rs 360.40 crore. The reason for the increase in the insurance amount is said to be the increase in the price of gold and silver jewellery and the inclusion of new priests and volunteers. This insurance has been done by New India Insurance Company.

What things does the insurance of Rs 474.46 crore cover?

375 crore: Accident insurance (personal accident) for volunteers, priests, cooks, security guards, etc.
67 crore: For gold-silver jewellery of Ganpatiji (last year it was Rs 43 crore)
30 crore: Public liability insurance (covers if anyone suffers any loss or accident due to the crowd)
2 crore: For disasters like fire or earthquake
43 lakh: Special insurance for the pandal area
This year Ganpati Bappa will be decorated with 66 kg gold and 336 kg silver.

​This mandal is located in King’s Circle of Matunga and holds special significance for the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community. The idol of Ganapati is made of shadu mitti (eco-friendly soil), which is environment friendly. The colours are also natural. Recorded music is not played here. The puja is performed with traditional South Indian temple instruments. People call this Ganapati “Navasala Pavanaara, Vishwacha Raja”, meaning whatever wish one makes, it is fulfilled.

GSB Ganesh Utsav is famous for its many unique traditions and rituals. This includes an ancient Hindu ritual called ‘Tulabhaar’, in which a person is weighed with food items of their choice and then these items are donated. These food items are used to make Mahaprasad. Another unique ritual is ‘Mahadhsthan’, in which people return with food sold on banana leaves, which is considered a blessing. There is a tradition of breaking coconuts in the pandal after the morning puja of Lord Ganpati is done, these broken coconuts are given as prasad to the devotees.
